What is Rewrite?

Rewrite is a self-directed online programme that explains why climate change is happening, but also emphasises the solutions and innovations we have to change the world. We believe that if we can change how people feel about the issue of climate change, we can change the way they respond to climate change.

Ultimately our goal is for you and your students to complete this programme and feel inspired, hopeful and positive about their future. We need every type of learner primed to respond to this global challenge. There is a world of possibility. There is a lot to be excited about!

What does the programme consist of?

This video takes you on a whistlestop tour of the programme.

Each lesson is broken down into sections and contains video, infographics, short quizzes and clear, relatable explanations. Some of the content is marked as optional. Students are free to explore this if they are interested but they don’t have to. Each lesson is specifically designed with teenagers in mind - it is fun, interactive, highly engaging and optimistic.

How do students access the online lessons?

Students have individual online accounts so they can learn at their own pace. They can do the programme on any device.

How much does it cost to do the core programme and the full programme?

The Core Programme is €17pp and the Full Programme is €22pp. Discounts apply for large groups and DEIS schools. If you would like to find out more or get a quote contact our Schools Coordinator sonya.murray@rewrite.ie

How long does it take to complete the programme?

The programme is flexible in terms of the amount of time you take to go through the lessons — it could be completed in a week or across several weeks. As a teacher or a student you are free to spread it out as you wish.

Each individual will go at their own pace. On average it takes about an hour to complete each lesson. Also note there is optional or extra content in every lesson, students can choose to dive in and learn more, so some students may take a bit longer.

Rewrite is part of Gaisce, The President’s Award. How does this work for students?

This is an important partnership for us - both Rewrite and Gaisce aim to empower young people to take action on environmental issues. Students can complete the full programme under the key challenge areas of personal skills or community involvement. Under these two challenge areas, all twelve lessons from the full programme plus at least one offline assignment equate to 13 hours on the awards programme.

What about homework assignments or class and group projects?

We have a range of interesting and fun assignments that complement the online programme. Depending on the assignment and your needs, your students can do them in the classroom, as homework, in groups or individually.

Does the programme need to be led by a particular teacher?

Rewrite is a good fit for Geography, Science, Development Education, Environmental Studies. The online content is self-directed and the cross curricular assignments can be led by a range of teachers. For example, an English teacher can lead a debate; a Home Economics teacher can lead an upcycling project; a Geography teacher can lead a discussion on the impact of climate change in Ireland.

How will I know if my class is engaged and moving through the programme?

Upon request we can provide you with a report that will show individual progress at any point in time.

Can I do the Rewrite programme on any device?

Yes - the programme will work on a smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop. We strongly recommend you use an up to date browser on your device for example Chrome on a computer, Safari on a Mac or Samsung on a mobile phone.

I started the programme and logged out, how do I get back in?

Log back in using the Sign In button at the top of the page. Go to your account and the course should appear at the bottom.

Is there sound /audio?

Yes - if you are planning to do the programme together in a classroom your students will need headphones.

Once inside, is it easy to navigate?

Yes - the menu is on the left which you can hide whilst learning. You can also go back if you want to look at something again.

Are there subtitles in videos?

Yes - A real advantage for students studying English as a foreign language. Learners can turn on subtitles themselves by toggling it on and off using the CC button in the playbar for each video.
